The removal of the FM 551 bridge at Interstate 30 is planned for during the weekend of September 11 – September 13. The process of removing the bridge will greatly impact the traffic in the area during that weekend. Beginning at approximately 8 PM on Friday, September 11th, the eastbound and westbound service roads (near the 551 interchange) will close. They should be reopened the next morning by 6 AM (Saturday, September 12th). Then, at 8 PM on Saturday, September 12th, there will be closures on the eastbound and westbound main lanes of Interstate 30. All main lanes should be back open to traffic by 8 AM on Sunday, Septebmer 13th.
Once the FM 551 bridge has been removed, those who typically use it will need to find alternate routes. FM 3549-Interstate 30 (in Rockwall) and Erby Campbell-Interstate 30 (in Royse City) are those suggested by TxDOT. It is likely SH 276 and SH 66 will be used as alternate routes by many. So, please be extra cautious while driving in the area as drivers get used their new routes. As always, be careful when driving through construction zones and pay attention to the construction signs.
