Other Permit Applications:
Certificate of Occupancy Application – A Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.) must be issued prior to occupancy of commercial use property. A CO is required anytime there is a new user type, change in tenant or change of ownership of commercial space. The application must be submitted with the required fees. A C.O. A building inspection and Fire inspection are then performed. The inspections must pass prior to issuance of the C.O.
Food Establishment Permit Application – All food and/or beverage establishments in Royse City are required to have a Food Establishment permit. The permit is issued annually. All expire at the end of the calendar year.
Temporary Food Permit Application – This permit is to be completed by food vendors for special events. A 30-day notice is required. Health inspection is required.
Solicitation Permit Application – This permit is to be completed when a solicitor wishes to go door to door advertising.
Payments for permits and fees cannot be processed over the phone. Payments can be made via MyGov by clicking HERE, or in our office at City Hall.

Do I need a permit for a security system?
The City of Royse City has partnered with SC Tracking Solutions to utilize an online tracking tool for the purpose of Alarm Permit Renewal/Registration payment. The City of Royse City Renewal/Registration fee is $25.00 plus tax for all residents/business owners/tenants that have a monitored alarm system. Please follow the (4) steps below to complete the transaction.

Do I need a permit for a garage sale?
No, but there are rules in place for holding them:
- Garage sales are limited to 3 sales during any 12-month period
- (1) One sign in the owner’s front yard and 2 other signs (off-site) are allowed on private property (between the house and sidewalk or fence), with the owner’s permission.
- Are not to exceed 2 square feet in size
- Must be placed at least 4 feet from the street curb line
- Are to be posted no longer than 72 hours
- Must be picked up
No signs are allowed on any utility pole, tree, fence, or structure, or to be placed on any public road right-of-way (street corners).
Do I need a permit to replace my water heater?
Yes. The Texas State Plumbing License Law requires that a plumbing permit be obtained and the work inspected by a state licensed plumbing inspector from the City. A licensed master plumber must register with the city and pull the required permit.

Do I need a permit for a shed?
You will need to obtain a permit for a storage building that exceeds 120 sq. ft.
If the building is less than 120 sq. ft., you do not need a permit. All accessory buildings must meet established set back requirements.
Do I need a permit for a Fence?
If you are replacing your fence in the exact same fence location and fence type, you do not need a permit.
If you are making any changes to location, height and/or fence type, or adding a new fence – then you do need a permit.
Do I need a permit for a new roof?
Yes, all roof work requires a permit. All roofing contractors must be registered with the City.
Do I need a permit for an irrigation system?
Yes, all new irrigation systems require permits.
Repair to an existing system may be done without a permit.
When do I need an electrical permit?
An electrical permit is required when you add circuits to your existing system, change out breaker panels, etc.
Changing out existing fixtures and plugs/switches does not require a permit.
When do I need a mechanical permit?
A mechanical permit is required when you add or replace any of the equipment in the air conditioning/furnace (HVAC) system.
When do I need a remodel permit?
A remodel permit is required when you alter the layout of the home – change out windows, add new siding or facade, remove or replace tubs/showers, etc.
Do I need a permit for my above ground pool?
If your pool if greater than 24” in height or in excess of 5,000-gallon capacity then a permit will be required.
