Hiring Process
Certified peace officers are not required to take the written examination or physical fitness assessment.
Written Examination
The purpose of this test is for measuring the ability to learn police information, observation and memory, verbal and reading comprehension, situational judgment, and problem solving. A study guide and practice examination are available for purchase from the exam manufacturer; however, this information is only provided to applicants who are invited to the Police Officer Recruit Examination.
Physical Fitness Assessment
The Royse City Police Department utilizes the 2,000 Meter Row for the Physical Fitness Assessment. The concept 2 row machine is utilized for the test with a damper setting of '5'. The 2,000-meter row is most equivalent to a one-mile run, and typically takes anywhere from seven to nine minutes to complete. All applicants will complete their row assessment in the presence of a certified tester.

The process takes approximately 10-12 weeks, depending on your rank on the eligibility list and factors in your background.
